American Red Cross In Crisis Again?
Those of you, who have read my book, Cardinal Principles of Governance, know that one of the cases that I present is that of the American Red Cross. The case I present covers a number of years that are plagued with its tainted involvement with America’s blood supply, governance problems, failures in disaster relief, and malfeasance by regional senior staff. It took many years for the most well known nonprofit organization in America to sharpen its skills in managing this enormous organization.
It hired an executive from outside the organization. Mark V. Everson was employed for approximately six months when it recently was discovered that he was having an affair with another a subordinate employee. Apparently, his job performance was good except for this situation. Was the board justified in firing him? How do you think this situation should have been handled? Do you think intimate liaisons should occur in organizations?
Post your comments about this or anything else that is on your mind.
